Netflix India web series Delhi Crime which is written and directed by Richie Mehta, this year 2020 won the Best Drama Series award at the International Emmy Awards 2020. The series is based on the horrific gang rape and murder of a woman in 2012, released on the streaming giant in March last year. It is an Indian web TV drama, written, produced, and directed by Richie Mehta. The series is based on a 2012 heinous crime in which six people raped a young girl. She was beaten and tortured and eventually succumbed to his injuries. This sparked protests across the country. The main theme of the series is based on the Delhi gang rape case that shook the entire nation.
Richie is a Canadian film director and writer. He tried to represent the obstacles that the police have to deal with while working on a case, whether it is a lack of funds or manpower. One can easily say that the series is biased towards the police, but Richie himself admitted that he wanted to show that the police were going through the case and that the case was resolved in time despite their challenges.
It is a seven-episode series. The series describes how the police investigate the case and apprehend Nirbhaya’s culprits. How the chain of custody of evidence was secured by Delhi police during the investigation.

My favourite character was Shefali shah who plays the role of an IPS officer as Vartika Chaturvedi. She brought the positive and emotional part of a police officer in front of the police. She played the character very well and explained how the family life of police officers suffers when they are supposed to investigate a heinous crime especially when it has become a national issue.
Delhi crime shows about the issue being faced by police when an issue is being telecasted by media all the time on news channels when the police are investigating the matter. Police have to suppress facts from media for the sake of secrecy of investigation and media attention and aggression of the public bring obstacles for the police investigation. We have read and seen a lot of negative aspects of police but this show brought positive aspects of police in front of us.
